5.
Local Councils

Your local council is the first place that all new food business owners should go to find out what they need to do and put in place. You need to talk to the Health or Environmental Health Department and you can find their contact details on your Council's website.

All food businesses in Australia have to have a Food Licence, and there are different types, depending upon what the business is making and doing. To get this Licence, a form will need to be completed, a fee paid, and an Environmental Health Officer (EHO) from the Council will need to inspect the business premises to ensure it meets all the requirements of both the Food Standards Code and the state / territory. In most state / territories, it is also a requirement that the business must have a qualified Food Safety Supervisor, so a copy of the certificate will be required by the Council prior to the Food Licence being issued. Give us a call for your Food Safety Supervisor Training, we have both face to face and internet options available - 07 55443220 or email anyi@howsafeisyourfood.com.au

There will be at least one inspection by the Council each year as part of the Licensing process and in many areas, this will be done using a 5 Star Rating System.

6.
Hotels, Motels & Function Centres

Although it is only the catering parts of these businesses which require a food safety program, the remainder must still meet the Mandatory Requirements of temperature control, allergen control, stock rotation, Hygiene / GMP, Cleaning, Pest Control, training and the specific requirements of the Food Standards Code which are applicable to each business.

The Green Food Safety Coach can help your business with both Food safety Programs or the Mandatory Requirements - give us a call on 07 55443220 or email  anyi@howsafeisyourfood.com.au

7.
Schools & Community Groups

In some cases these food groups may not be considered as food businesses, so may not have to even have Food Licences. Check with your local council before running any food based functions or fundraisers. You'll find the contact details for the Health / Environmental Health Department on your local Council's website.

One of the issues which many of the Committees of these groups do not do well is risk management of food based functions. As an example, most community groups do not require that their volunteers at a food based function sign in and out. This is an important record and essential to risk management.

To assist Committee with their risk management, the Green Food safety Coach has developed a special Workshop which can be done face to face or using the internet, included are templates for things like, cleaning, temperature control, training, budgets, marketing plan, etc. All of which can then be modified by the group to suit it's specific needs.

For more information go to our Community Workshop page.

Other School and Community groups may only need to make sure that their volunteers have had food safety training, give us a call on 07 55443220 or email anyi@howsafeisyourfood.com.au to discuss how we can help you either face to face or using the internet.
