Retailers not only wanting safety and quality

The huge UK retailer Tesco has recently contacted all their suppliers with a request to reduce their carbon footprint by 30% before 2020.

Although the letter did not say there would be any negative effects if the request was not followed, the company has made it clear that those suppliers that comply will receive rewards as a result.

More and more, food businesses are coming to realize that they don't work in a vacuum, they are connected, and responsible, to both their suppliers and customers.

Retailers in the US and Australia are starting to do environmental or sustainale audits as part of their Approved Supplier Programs.

Not only is being sustainable good for a business, it is now becoming essential in order to do business.
