Sydney Harbour seafood

In 2006 all commercial fishing was banned in Sydney Harbour due to the presence of dioxins in some fish species and other seafood.

If exposed to high levels of dioxins over a long period, people can potentially develop ill effects, including cancer and reproductive problems.

West of the Harbour Bridge, fish should not be eaten and those from the east of the bridge should be limited to less than 150g per month, depending upon the actual fish species.

The NSW Food Authority has just reminded fishers of these restrictions.
