Effective as of 01 July 2010 in Australia, the National Measurement Insitute (NMI) will become the regulatory body responsible for trade measurement. This will be very good for food businesses as it will significantly reduce state differences and fees, whilst making the country equal with our trading partners. All consumer and trade enquiries and control will now happen through just one body, meaning that there will now be uniformity across the whole country. The Australian Food and Grocery Council is pleased with the development and the CEO, Kate Carnell said, “This is an important step forward for Australia’s food and grocery manufacturing industry by enabling industry to be more internationally competitive with trade measurement,” Ms Carnell said. “National measurement uniformity has been an issue industry has been pressing Australian governments on for over a decade and we are happy it has been achieved. “For example, the measurements of a can of baked beans made in Australia will now be in line with similar products in Australia’s export markets, including New Zealand and Europe.” For more information go to http://www.measurement.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx |
