Food safety training should be fun

Saturday, November 13th, 2010 by Green Food Safety Coach

I am passionate about food safety training and pride myself on ensuring that my students have fun. People learn more when they are having fun.

So for me Food Safety is deadly serious but the training must be fun.

For more information go to the Food Safety Training page on my website – www.howsafeisyourfood.com.au/foodsafetytraining.html

There is a great photo of me and my food safety friends on my Facebook Wall.

New world record in Brisbane

Monday, October 11th, 2010 by Green Food Safety Coach

Pending Guinness World Record verification, the new world record for the most number of espressos made in an hour was set in Brisbane on Thursday 07 October.

The Coffee Club at Aspley had five teams of 20 baristas producing one espresso every 0.7 seconds to set the new record of 5061 made in one hour.

The baristas from five of the groups sites had been practicing for three months to get the timing right for the run. They were planning on getting to the figure of 4500 but exceeded that in a major way.

The previous record of  3386 was set in Poland in March this year.

New food safety game

Sunday, September 12th, 2010 by Green Food Safety Coach

I have been to training sessions that make you wonder what you are doing there – as I am sure that we all have!!!!!!

Food safety is deadly serious and cannot be made a joke of, but learning about it does not have to be boring.

I have developed a food safety game called “How safe is your food?”. I have used it many times to reinforce food safety training in a fun way, and it has been very popular.

It is available for purchase as both Business and Kids versions from the eStore on my website – www.howsafeisyourfood.com.au/estore.html

I am now in the process of developing three others, and will shortly be putting the first of these into the estore. It is called “No Go” and will join my other games as a great way for food businesses and schools to top up their food safety training

Community groups need to have FS training too!!!

Saturday, August 14th, 2010 by Green Food Safety Coach

Today I am off to run basic food safety training for members of several community groups.

Many of these people, at first, did not realize that if they handle food as part of their community group events then they are required to have the food safety skills and knowledge to do their role within those events.

A food handler is anyone who comes into contact with food or food contact surfaces. That means that is is not onlypaid staff but volunteers that must meet this requiement.

If you are involved in a community group and it does food at events, then you need to have had some form of food safety training.

I run food safety training for businesses and groups regularly, and tailor it to the specific group in the room. The training can be done by face to face or even a webinar.

Email me if you need such training and we can work out the details – anyi@howsafeisyourfood.com.au

Food Safety Supervisor Refresher

Thursday, August 12th, 2010 by Green Food Safety Coach

Licensed food businesses in Queensland must have at least one Food safety Supervisor available whenever food is being handled.

So people are attending course all over the place by face to face and on-line to meet this requirement and present copies of their certificates to their local councils.

The problem with this is thes people forget the majority of what they learnt in their class and are, most often than not, unaware of any changes to food law that may affect their business.

That’s why it makes sense to have the Food Safety Supervisor knowledge and skills topped up every year,  just like those with a CPR certificate have to do.

I have written Queensland’s only current FSS Annual Refresher, available as both a four hour face to face class or webinar.

If this is something that interests you, get in touch by email – anyi@howsafeisyourfood.com.au for details.

How safe is your food game

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010 by Green Food Safety Coach

Ran some food some training today for a long time client, and wanted to make sure that the staff, and client, got something out of it. I used my How safe is your food?game. It was once againvery successful, to the point that even though the some staff had to leave , they wanted to stay to find out if their team had won. When was the last time you heard people leaving training saying that they had fun?

People learn more, and better, if they are having fun. Food safety training doesn’t need to be boring and that is what this game is about.

Do volunteers need training?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010 by devAdmin

These are special people who give their time freely to help others. If they do so in a group or business that provides food, they are considered to be food handlers, just like any paid staff.

The Food Standards Code requires all food handlers to have the required food safety skills and knowledge to do their job. This means that volunteers must also meet this requirement. Training is, therefore, going to be required for them as well.
