An idea for getting rid of garlic breath

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 by Green Food Safety Coach

Like many, I adore foods strong in garlic, but as a trainer and speaker, the last thing I want is to turn up at a client’s business the next day with “garlic breath”. This means I have to give up eating some of my favourite foods sometimes.

A new study may show there is a solution to the problem.

Apparently simply drinking milk before or while eating those wonderful foods will reduce the garlic coming out in our breathes.

New really meaty pizza about to be available in Australia.

Monday, August 30th, 2010 by Green Food Safety Coach

A large pizza chain in Australia is about to launch a limited time only, really meaty pizza called “The Butcher’s Block”.

It is only going to be available during September – which is known as Footy Month, as it is the finals season for two of the major football codes – NRL and AFL. Leading up to the Grand Finals for both codes at the end of the month.

It has been created after much research on Australian tastes. It will contain; ham, bacon, steak, pepperoni and chirozo and holandaise sauce, with a parsley garnish.

For meat lovers it will be an absolute  dream, but the question that could be asked is,  in a society that is now recognised as having an increasing obesity issue, do we really need this sort of product?

Egg recall in US just gets bigger

Saturday, August 28th, 2010 by Green Food Safety Coach

Now that a second egg producer is conducting a recall as well, the total number of eggs being recalled  due to Salmonella enterititis across the states exceeds 500million.

This would have to be one of, if not, the biggest recalls in history. There are already significant food safety implications coming out of this, and it hasn’t finished yet.

Foodie Friday – tortured potatoes??

Friday, August 27th, 2010 by Green Food Safety Coach

A recent study has shown that by feeding electricity through nearly ready potatoes significantly increases the antioxidant content of those potatoes.

Although this certainly improves the nutritional value of one of the world’s most loved vegetables, it does make you wonder why someone even thought to do it????

Have you heard of other interesting food studies that make you go, WHY????

Friday’s Green Tip – try to use natural light where possible. It is good for you and your staff with the  potential sunlight helping VitaminD. It reduces electricity costs and is great for the environment. Just make sure it is not a food safety issue through contamination and keep the glass or plastic surfaces clean.

Every little bit helps.

Call to increase Vitamin D intake

Thursday, August 26th, 2010 by Green Food Safety Coach

There is mounting evidence that increasing the RDI of Vitamin D from the current recommendation of 200-660IU to around 2000IU will have significant health benfits to all, as well as reducing health costs to the community.

For details about the benfits and deficiencies of Vitamin D intake, go to the article on my website – www.howsafeisyourfood.com.au/articles.html

Food businesses are also members of the community

Monday, August 23rd, 2010 by Green Food Safety Coach

Food businesses know that they are important in the community and are significant contributors to community groups. From the takeaway sponsoring a local footy team to the large donations made by manufacturers to Foodbank and similar groups, food businesses play an important part in our community.

Fifty Thousand dollars has just been donated to the CFA, SES and Community Emergency Response Teams in the Kingslake area to help get them back on track after the Black Saturday fires of 2009.

“This is one of the largest donations we have ever received,” said Glen Woods of Flowerdale CFA. “A donation of this size makes a huge impact on our brigade because we are a very small community, and as such receive little funding. Prior to this I would have to sell Freddo frogs at the local Trade School to raise funds.”

The donation is due to a collaboration between Sunny Queen Eggs and Kinross Farm and the sale of around 1.2 million specially marked Bushfire Appeal eggs.

Kincross Farm is in the Kingslake area and this was a simple way for it to help out it’s local area.

This is just another example of the generosity of Aussies, both privately and through their businesses.

Foodie Friday – new fried chicken record

Friday, August 20th, 2010 by Green Food Safety Coach

A record for the largest amount of fried chicken ever was attempted this week in Louisville, Kentucky as part of  KFC’s Seventy Year of the Original Recipe celebrations.

A ton of fried chicken was served up in a gigantic OR bucket  8ft high and 9ft wide, and free samples were made available for those in the area.

The secret recipe for the Original Recipe is kept in a safe in Louisville. It had to be moved temporarily in 2008, when the vault security was upgraded, and was given a high security motorcade to do so.

FRIDAY’S GREEN TIP - don’t leave the tap running when rubbing the antibacterial soap into your hands during hand washing – you will be amazed how much water will be saved by even this simple technique.

Every little bit helps!!!!!
